The Power of Intentions

Setting intentions have been practiced by millions of people all over the world for many centuries. Some of this has been part of their religious upbringing and others based on their spiritual and cultural beliefs. There is now science behind such intentions as the mind’s energy, or in quantum physics terms, such intentions are waves of possibility. These waves expand with time giving rise to greater possibilities, so it is important to allow some time for these to incubate. Intentions need to be positive in nature as these carry vibrations. Indeed all words spoken or thought of carry vibrations and the more positive these words are the more positive the vibrations are. Intentions also need to be in line with the evolution of consciousness.

Setting intentions also have positive psychological impacts as they help us to focus on what is important in our lives. They help us to manage our lives rather than have others live our lives for us. Intentions can be used for any type of challenge one is facing, whether it is anxiety, depression, trauma or any other challenge. So they are very relevant in the field of counselling and psychotherapy. “Energy flows where intention goes. Create your day” Unknown. Intentions can be short-term or long-term. They can be for days, weeks, months or years.

How to Start Setting Intentions

1. State your intentions.

When you decide what it is you are looking for, make a mental or written note. If you are not sure about what it is you are looking for or not sure about your meaning and purpose in life, your intention might be to get clarity on this. Make sure your intentions are positive.

2. Get rid of limiting beliefs

If you find this difficult then your intentions can be about removing such beliefs. Beliefs are formed over time but need to be continuously re-visited during our lifetime to ensure that they still serve us well. Intentions are powerful only if they are in line with your values and beliefs.

3. Allow time for Incubation

Give your intentions time for the Universe to work on them. This length of time could be hours, days or weeks depending on whether your intentions are short or long-term.

4. Manifestation

This is the important part. Putting the intentions into practice to make your life more meaningful and happy.
